Tom Hanks-2-1024x767Thomas Jeffrey Hanks, born July 9, 1956, is an American actor. He is well-known for his dramatic and comedic roles , and is considered to be an American iconic cultural figure. Thomas Jeffrey Hanks was born in Concord, California, to Janet Marylyn a hospital worker and Amos Mefford Hanks, an itinerant cook. The family of his mother, initially surnamed "Fraga" was largely Portuguese and his father was mostly of English descent. Tom was raised in what he describes as"a "fractured" family. He had no experience acting in college and credits his inability be cast in a college production as the reason he started his career. He went downtown, and auditioned for a community theater play, was requested by the director of the play to Cleveland, and there his acting career began.
